THE SIDE-BY-SIDE / US EDITION

Brother QL-1100C vs DYMO LabelWriter 5XL

Start with your label supply, not just the printer quote. A pack that fits one printer’s media system may be irrelevant to the other’s running costs.

These are different label systems.

Brother documents DK pre-sized and continuous rolls. The 5XL requires authentic compatible DYMO LW labels. Do not assume third-party labels or older DYMO rolls will work.

Compare the pack price divided by the number of equivalent shipping labels. A narrow address-label roll is not a valid substitute in a 4 × 6 cost comparison.

Check the computer and the connection.

QL-1100C is a USB workflow. The 5XL supports USB and LAN; LAN is not the same as Wi-Fi or AirPrint.

The current DYMO product page specifies Windows 10 or newer and macOS 14 or newer for its desktop software. Brother’s current downloads should be checked for your exact OS version.

Choose for the labels you actually make.

If continuous-length address or other labels are part of your routine, investigate the Brother cutter and the correct DK supplies. If you mainly produce one shipping format, evaluate that complete workflow first.

A network port does not verify a direct phone route. Neither should be sold to an iPhone-first buyer on the basis of an unconfirmed assumption.

Before you decide.

Can I use cheap generic rolls in the DYMO 5XL?

The manufacturer requires authentic compatible DYMO labels. Generic or obsolete rolls are not a valid running-cost assumption.

Is the 5XL USB-only?

No. Its current US product documentation lists USB and LAN connectivity.

Is the Brother QL-1100C the same as QL-1100?

We maintain the C version as a separate exact model. Older models and bundles are not automatically matched.
